On Friday, TMZ published a report that Ariana Grande would be performing with *NSYNC at Coachella this year. While that collaboration has not been confirmed, Grande seems to want to fuel the rumors for a reason. On her Instagram Friday, she posted a photo of herself singing the boy band’s 1997 hit “Tearin’ Up My Heart” with the caption “the best medicine,” with an added heart emoji. “90s baby.”
A source told E! that Grande and band leader JC Chasez have been in discussions about a performance in Indio, California, but there has been no confirmation from anyone’s reps or the festival. Another source reportedly told E! that Grande and Lance Bass were recently in the studio preparing for their performance.
Anyone who watched Grande’s “Thank U, Next” music video knows that she loves a good reference to the pop culture of her childhood. That video mostly featured callbacks to early 2000s films, including Mean Girls and Legally Blonde, but anyone who was aware of those cultural milestones then was also aware of Justin Timberlake and/or had a mild crush on him.
To follow up her *NSYNC tease, Grande posted a very Coachella-esque photo with the caption “see u soon.” She will perform on Sunday, April 14 at the festival, but so far, her website does not mention anyone joining her onstage.
They haven’t performed as a group in years and never as a foursome,” a source told Page Six. “JC does a lot of the vocals, though, so that’s not a problem.”
