Hailey Baldwin Bieber and Priyanka Chopra Jonas announced that they had taken their husband’s names quietly, letting the internet catch their names changing on social media. Miley Cyrus let her husband Liam Hemsworth spill the beans on a morning talk show. Cyrus is still Miley Cyrus professionally…but personally, she’s Miley Hemsworth.
Liam Hemsworth was on Live With Kelly and Ryan when Kelly Ripa congratulated him on his marriage to Cyrus. He revealed the last name change by correcting her. “Miley Rae Hemsworth now, actually,” Hemsworth said.
And he couldn’t really believe she took his last name either: “She did [take my name],” he confirmed. “She’ll still be obviously known as Miley Cyrus [professionally], but she did. She took my name, which was great. I think that was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn’t ask her to take my name, but then she’s like, ‘No, of course I’ll take your name.’ I’m like, ‘That’s awesome. That’s really good. Thank you.’”
He also touched on what a different experience it’s been calling her his wife. “Yeah, it’s [calling Cyrus my wife] become a little more normal but the first couple of weeks—I mean it’s only been a month and a half or something—but the first couple of weeks was really fun to be wife and husband. I just have her in as wife in my phone now.”
Ripa and Ryan Seacrest also got him to explain why the wedding was so intimate. “We never wanted to do anything too extravagant or big,” he said. “We just wanted to—you know, we find the whole thing kind of embarrassing. We know how we feel about each other, but we just wanted to do something simple and organic and just with basically, immediate family. But it was a really nice day. Really, really special.”
